We were in Mars Subcamp Scouts from 18 nations were at Orbis 2006
Scottish Scouts made a big impression in their kilts Movie listings were posted on subcamp noticeboard
This is the opening evening It was so hot that a fire engine drove round hosing down scouts
This was the jamboree mascot 'Orbismann' Here he is again without his 'Dr Seuss' hat
There was some pretty dangerous swordfighting going on ... ...and Hawkers turned up hawking with vultures !
Iain and Andrew ran the souvenir shop and made lots of (girl)friends There were also other scout shops from European countries
Robbie drew the crowds in with his pipes - apparently cries of 'Peace!' mean 'Again!' in Czech (or so he thinks). This was the 'Tchaiovna' tea-house
A giant gyroscope - not recommended for those with the 'runs' Water football supplied the First Aid tent with lots of practice
We had bucking bronco practice And a massive scalextrix track
Trampolines gave more opportunities for the First Aid tent There were also lots of arts and crafts stands
Excursions a plenty - this is us outside a caving complex ... ... where we saw really impressive stalactites, chasms and chambers
This is an excursion to Napoleon's fields A stand in sentry
"Suits you!" in the torture chamber of the local castle. A mean Napoleonic cook served us broth for the Imperial Guard
This is a Glasgow scout firing a real frontloading blackpowder musket. "Prepare to fire !" "Fire !" <<VERY loud bang>>
And this is a real cannon which the Glasgow scouts loaded up and fired. "Prepare to fire !" "Fire !" <<VERY VERY VERY loud bang>>
We each symbolically melted down musketballs ... ... which were then cast into letters to create a giant anti-war poem
This is us at the local equivalent of Auchengillan ... ... where we participated in an environmental project tallying pedestrians and tourists.
Frisbee was very popular ... ... and the reservoir was where we went swimming and canoeing
Alas it started to pour down during the week ... ... and there was a mass evacuation in one of the subcamps
The food was fresh and Czech I rather liked it. Everyone got trim on the healthy diet
Oh dear.. but we did go out specially to Brno for a pizza ... And the leaders had a glass or two of the local StaroBrno
Flags representing the 18 nations come onto the stage at the closing ceremony. The Saltire is in the middle Nessie has a last look before leaving
Sortka was the SubCamp chief and was very friendly As was Pipi, also from the Czech Republic
Helen was also a SubCamp chief. They were on duty 24 hours a day for 8 days Our Young Leaders were also popular
These are Polish scouts. On the continent, there seems to be many more girl scouts than boys These are also Polish scouts
