Be one of the 1st - Want to be help out?
There are loads of ways you can help out at the scouts. You
will get a chance to try lots of different activities,
assist in training, running games and socialise with other
westenders. You will get a sense of reward you are unlikely to
get from day-to-day work.
What would I do?
You decide what section you think you can best help out taking into account
your time and experience. Simply being present to take scores in a game is
welcome ! There is no common background to our present leaders. They all bring their
enthusiasm and experience to the group.
Beaver Scouts - play lots of games, make friends, make things with
paper and glitter and learn to help mummy and daddy. Beaver Scouts meet once
a week from 6pm to 7.30pm and are the easiest troop to help out with. This
section has an enthusiastic leader with lots of experience to keep things going.
Cub Scouts - again play lots of games, activities are more challenging,
do activities in groups. We have lots of games for cubs to play
Scouts - the scouts programme is centred around the monthly camping
programme. The troop has material for running activities which may be spread
over a month. Cooking is popular as we have an excellent kitchen.
Child Safety
The well-being of scouts of all sections is a primary concern. Adult helpers
will need to gain a Disclosure Scotland certificate. This is now not as
daunting as it was in the previous two years and is fairly straightforward
and the section leaders will prepare the documents for you.
